Is Diaz Katsidis In Jeopardy?
In the latest boxing news, the negotiations between World Boxing Organization interim champion Michael Katsidis and Juan Diaz, the IBF/WBO/WBA lightweight champion, has developed a potential problem due to Diaz’s contract with Don King. Apparently, King wanted an initial postponement of the purse bid, but he overruled by the WBO, who decided to proceed despite King’s reservations. According to Dan Rafael, because of Diaz’s contract with Don King doesn’t end for another four months, he’ll be unable to carry out with the fight with Katsidis, as long as King is against it.
Should Diaz goes against King’s wishes, it can lead to Diaz having to give money to King as well as possibly have his contract extended beyond March. It’s unclear at this time why King doesn’t wish for Diaz to fight Katsidis, though perhaps it’s because he recognizes that the Australian fighter is a serious threat to Diaz because of his one-punch power.
King, naturally, would want to do his utmost to protect his fighter Diaz, knowing that if Diaz should lose to Katsidis, it would ruin a potential future bout against Manny Pacquiao, who Diaz has been rumored to be fighting in the near future.
