Calzaghe Has No Interest In Fighting Froch
In today’s boxing news, WBO/WBC/WBA super middleweight champion Joe Calzahge has stated that he doesn’t have the slightest interest in fighting Carl Froch, the British super middleweight champion, who has been calling him out for the best year. Not many people give Froch a ghost of a chance at beating Calzaghe, and perhaps Froch is even aware of the fact that he’d lose, but with the huge payday that he’s receive in a bout with Calzaghe, it would be like winning the lottery regardless of the eventual outcome of the fight.
Froch has stated that he has no interest in fighting Mikkel Kessler, the former WBC/WBA super middleweight champion, who Calzaghe recently defeated by unanimous decision. Froch, though, seems to know that he wouldn’t match up well with Kessler, and besides, he no longer holds a belt which would interest Froch.
As for Calzaghe, he’s more interested in moving up to the light heavyweight division and fighting Bernard Hopkins, the 43 year-old former champion. The bout will make a huge amount of money for both, regardless of Hopkins’ advanced age and deminishing skills. Froch, however, would bring in next to nothing for Calzaghe, since he’s little known outside of England, and doesn’t hold a major title.
