Oyebola Dies From Gunshot Wound
James Oyebola, 47, (18-5) a former WBC International heavyweight champion and medallist at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, passed away on Friday after his life support machines were switched off. A day earlier, Oyebola had been pronounced brain dead by doctors, whom had fought to save the boxer’s life. On Monday, Oyebalo had been shot in the face and leg while asking several patrons to put out their cigarettes at a London nightclub.
From all reports, the three patrons didn’t take too kindly Oyebola’s request, and instead of confronting the 6’9” on the spot, they minutes later walked up to him and shot him as they were on their way out of the night club. At this time, the three suspects – black makes, approximate ages of 19-25 - haven’t yet been apprehended, but several nearby homes have been searched. Up until several weeks ago, smoking had been permitted in London clubs, but had recently been outlawed. Oyebola, originally from Nigeria, was noted for his impressive offensive skills, and although he didn’t have knockout power, he often overwhelmed his opponents with his high punch output and tremendous size.
